Gun Control Legislation – Obama’s Administration Has Attempted to Use Fast and Furious To Further Its Anti-Gun Stance – Chris Cox

Gun Control Legislation – Obama’s Administration Has Attempted to Use Fast and Furious To Further Its Anti-Gun Stance – Chris Cox

These are strong words from Chris W. Cox, Executive Director of The National Rifle Association’s Institute for Legislative Action and the organization’s chief lobbyist. The saddest part of this entire anti-gun agenda is the willingness to endanger lives, both in the United States and Mexico. All honest, law-abiding gunowners should be looking for Justice for the Justice Department.

NRA Concern over Fast and Furious Operation is said to be an ‘Agenda’ to Undermine Eric Holder and President Obama – Salon Article

NRA Concern over Fast and Furious Operation is said to be an ‘Agenda’ to Undermine Eric Holder and President Obama – Salon Article

This Salon article is extremely critical of the NRA’s dogged pursuit of justice in the failed Fast and Furious gunrunning operation. Not only that, the Salon article claims that the NRA’s seeking to change gun legislation, ie, lax gun control laws, has been as damaging as the Fast and Furious operation. What a ridiculous claim to associate the NRA’s action, ie, protecting the law-abiding citizen’s right to keep and bear arms for self-defense, is equivalent to our government’s plan to allow straw gun purchases (AGAINST ITS OWN LAWS), knowing that these guns would end up in the hands of Mexican drug cartels. And, that these guns would be used to destroy innocent lives in Mexico. Read John Lott’s editorial that mentions no effort was even made to do any guntracing, nor was the Mexican government notified.

. . .The NRA has homed in on Operation Fast and Furious in order to advance its agenda of undermining not just Holder but the president. The misguided operation, run by ATF officials reporting to the Justice Department, encouraged Arizona gun dealers to sell weapons to “straw purchasers,” with the hopes of tracing the weapons to the Mexican cartels. ATF lost track of many of the guns, and some surfaced at crime scenes on both sides of the Mexican border, including one involving the murder of Border Patrol agent Brian Terry last year in Arizona. . . .

The whole truth is that lax U.S. gun laws — supported by the NRA — are what have helped the Mexican drug cartels to arm themselves and slaughter law enforcement officers, rivals and innocent people.

“The NRA has been devoted to assure that our gun laws remain anemic, ” said Dennis Henigan, acting president of the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence. ”The NRA is not really interested in stopping the gun trafficking.”

As a matter of fact, the NRA is interested in stopping the gun trafficking, it is seeking Eric Holder’s removal from office.

NRA is a Front For Illegal Gun Sales – Author Claims

NRA is a Front For Illegal Gun Sales – Author Claims

The author of the following article is ranting about the NRA, claiming that it is a front for illegal gun sales. That is news to me, as I thought they were protecting the rights of law-abiding citizens from government infringement. I’ve never heard the NRA encourage any kind of illegal activity, yet the author claims that somehow knowing that a gun has traveled from someone to someone will reduce crime. The folks who are shooting people don’t really care about any kind of laws, and they will get the guns regardless. But the law-abiding, as soon as the government restricts legitimate gun sales, will be hassled to purchase and sell guns.

The National Rifle Association, that well-funded protector of the people’s right to keep and bear arms, is also a felon’s best friend.

The group’s zero tolerance toward gun registration or any kind of public database that records and tracks the purchase of firearms — fueled by a paranoia that crooks, killers and rogue government agencies would use that information for evil — has triggered the kind of collateral damage that politicians, both here and in Washington, should be condemning instead of condoning. . . .

NRA Members and Gun Owners Will Vote Second Amendment At Ballot Box

Gun Owners who support gun rights and the Second Amendment will vote, and their vote is a powerful voice through the ballot box this November. There are millions of NRA members, and NRA’s Wayne LaPierre reminds politicians what has historically happened during the elections when gun rights and freedom are on the table. The 2012 presidential election is critical for gun owners.

National Right To Carry Reciprocity Act, H.R. 822, Moves Closer to Passage

Good news for law-abiding citizens who wish to carry in other states without fear of unknowingly breaking a law and being charged with a criminal act.

Thanks to the good work of millions of American gun owners and NRA members, Congress is moving closer to restoring one of our fundamental freedoms guaranteed by the Second Amendment.

Ten days ago, the House Judiciary Committee considered amendments to the “National Right-to-Carry-Reciprocity Act” (H.R. 822), which would allow any person with a valid, state-issued concealed firearm permit to exercise the right to carry a firearm in any state that permits concealed carry. . . .

Some great discussion on the 90 percent myth, that 90% of the guns found in Mexico can be traced back to the USA. More discussion on Fast and Furious and Eric Holder. Great clarifications on several matters.

Second Amendment Is Out of Date for The 21st Century – Author also claims – “Attempting to find actual sense in this inherent piece of the foundation of American society in the 21st century is to say the least, insanity.”

Second Amendment Is Out of Date for The 21st Century – Author also claims – “Attempting to find actual sense in this inherent piece of the foundation of American society in the 21st century is to say the least, insanity.”

I have posted the first two paragraphs of this article below. The author advocates gun control, for sure. Yet, gun control doesn’t work. Gun control doesn’t make us safer.

Reason magazine has an excellent article entitled: Gun Control’s Twisted Outcome. Read it here.

The worst is yet to come in her article. I seriously doubt if the author has read much (if anything at all) of the endless documentation that demonstrates how civilized, law-abiding citizens, have frequently defended themselves and their families with their guns, and how often gun control has not worked, no matter how much faith one has in the idea.

Global Perspectives
‘Guns don’t kill people. People kill people’ … Since when?
Sabria Chowdhury

This is the famous slogan of the very influential firearms lobbyists, the National Rifle Association (NRA) in the United States. This organisation strongly advocates the rights of gun ownership to be a personal and moral right, denying any links between the lax laws relating to gun ownership and high gun-related violence in the US.

The Second Amendment to the US Constitution protects the “rights of the people to keep and bear arms.” This is embedded within the Bill of Rights. This amendment was drawn by the Founding Fathers in 1791, in a historical period when most people lived in agrarian communities and guns were used for hunting and for protection against Native Americans and highwaymen. Attempting to find actual sense in this inherent piece of the foundation of American society in the 21st century is to say the least, insanity. . . .

Hatch, Begich Support Second Amendment Rights – Introduce Firearms Interstate Commerce Reform Act

Hatch, Begich Support Second Amendment Rights Introduce Firearms Interstate Commerce Reform Act

The reforms to be enacted if this becomes law are at bottom of this press release.

It was introduced in January 2011. See this link for more on the proposed legislation.

Firearms Interstate Commerce Reform Act Track the Bill Here

Hatch, Begich Support Second Amendment Rights
Introduce Firearms Interstate Commerce Reform Act
WASHINGTON – Recognizing the need to revamp outdated and restrictive gun laws, U.S Senators Mark Begich (D-Alaska) and Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) have introduced the Firearms Interstate Commerce Reform Act. The bill allows for the interstate sale of firearms and removes several antiquated and unnecessary restrictions imposed on interstate firearms transactions.

“Utahns and Americans everywhere have a right to bear arms, and this legislation ensures that onerous and outdated restrictions on everyone’s Second Amendment rights are no longer in place,” Sen. Hatch said. “By removing these restrictions, we can ensure that the constitutional freedoms we seek to protect remain intact.”

“Current laws restricting interstate commerce of firearms not only lag behind common sense and new technology, they are unfair and burdensome,” Sen. Begich said. “This legislation cleans up decades-old laws that are unnecessarily restricting the rights of Alaskans and other Americans to purchase and sell firearms.”

“The National Instant Criminal Background Check System has made many restrictions enacted in 1968 obsolete. It’s time to bring the law into the 21 st century. This important legislation will modernize and streamline interstate firearms transactions. The NRA and gun owners across the nation thank Senators Hatch and Begich for their leadership on this issue,” said Chris W. Cox, executive director of the NRA Institute for Legislative Action.

The Firearms Interstate Commerce Reform Act removes a number of restrictions from the Gun Control Act of 1968, which only allowed licensed dealers to sell rifles and shot guns to residents of a different state under a lengthy series of conditions. The restrictions were supposed to prevent buyers from evading “background checks” available at the time, which were mainly carried out through state laws requiring local police chiefs to issue firearms permits.

However, since 1998, all people buying firearms from dealers in the U.S. have been subject to computerized background checks under the FBI’s National Instant Criminal Background Check System; a system much more sophisticated and advanced than what was available in 1968. As a result, the complex system of state laws currently restricting the interstate commerce of firearms is outdated. In some cases, current law requires citizens to jump through so many hoops, it hinders or even prevents these sales.

The new law would allow:

**Individuals to buy handguns, as well as rifles or shotguns, from licensed dealers in another state, subject to the background check requirement. The buyer and dealer would still have to meet in person and comply with the laws of both states;

**Dealers to engage in their business at gun shows in other states, but would have to comply with the laws in the state where the gun show takes place;

**The bill would reduce theft and loss of firearms during shipment between dealers by getting rid of a provision that says dealers may not transfer firearms to one another face to face, away from their business premises. Currently, dealers who agree on a sale are forced to return to their businesses and ship firearms to one another which involves some risk of theft or loss. The new law would allow an in-person exchange.

Similar legislation has been introduced in the House.
